Manager Carolyn Fielder has been involved with the school for 28 years, having started as a helper when her own children were pre-schoolers. She now leads a dedicated team of caring, friendly staff.
Little Saints Preschool is a busy place with up to 26 children aged two and a half to five in attendance at any one time and sessions beginning and ending at different times throughout the day. Typically children stay for between two and a half and six hours at a time. Each child’s key-worker plans fun and appropriate learning activities that meet individual needs and a big emphasis is placed on developing children’s speaking and listening skills.
The child focussed learning happens mainly through free flow play with children choosing from a huge range of indoor and outdoor activities. There’s even a café area where children can ask for drinks and healthy snacks during café opening times and sit at the café tables to enjoy them.
‘It’s important to get a child’s name down early for a preschool place,’ says Carolyn, ‘as spaces fill up quickly and your child might have to be put on a waiting list if you don’t plan ahead.’
There’s so much to do at preschool, from building castles and playing hopscotch, to enjoying a book in a quiet corner or completing a jigsaw, but Carolyn is about to boost the number of activities on offer even further. A large number of Sainsbury’s vouchers have recently been collected (with many donated by members of the church and community) and Carolyn has the happy task of deciding what to spend them on!
